Meet the Congressional Candidates!
The Cranford Democrats will be hosting the seven Democratic candidates competing to take on Republican Congressman Leonard Lance at two “Meet and Greet” events at the Cranford Community Center at 220 Walnut Avenue.On Tuesday, February 6, the Democrats will host Democrats Goutam Jois, of Summit; Tom Malinowski, of Rocky Hill; Cranford resident David Pringle and Scott Salmon of Scotch Plains. The event will be held at 7 pm.Two weeks later, on Thursday, February 22, the Cranford Democrats will host Peter Jacob, of Union; Lisa Mandelblatt, of Westfield and Berkeley Heights resident Linda Weber. The event will be held at the same time and location. “This gives voters an opportunity to ask questions of all the candidates and also to speak with them one-on-one in a casual setting,” said Cranford Democratic Chairman John Salerno. “We have an historic opportunity to re-take the House of Representatives in 2018, and voters in the 7th District have a remarkable group of candidates from which to choose.”Ultimately, Democrats will make their choice for standard-bearer on Primary Election Day, June 5. Whomever is chosen will run against Congressman Lance in the November 6 General Election.There are 75 towns in the 7th Congressional District ( Cranford is the 8th largest by voter registration). The 7th District is one of only 23 Republican-held districts that were carried by Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016.
