Cranford Dems Hold Second Congressional Forum

The Cranford Democratic Committee hosted its second Congressional Forum on Thursday, February 22 at the Cranford Community Center at 7 pm. More than 30 voters attended to hear the candidates.Democrats heard from:Peter Jacob, of Union Township. Jacob, a social worker, was the 2016 Democratic candidate running against Leonard Lance; andLinda Weber, of Berkeley Heights. Ms. Weber is a bank executive and activist who has raised millions of dollars for cancer treatments and research.Audience members quizzed the candidates on a variety of issues including: health care delivery costs; gun control; anti-trust legislation against internet giants Google, Alphabet and Facebook; cutting government costs and the ability to raise the funding needed to defeat Rep. Lance.Earlier in the month, more than 60 people attended when the Cranford Democrats hosted candidates: Goutam Jois, Tom Malinowski, David Pringle and Scott Salmon.There are five candidate seeking the Democratic nomination in race to oppose Republican Congressman Leonard Lance.Cranford is the 8th largest town (by voter registration) in the 7th Congressional District. The district includes 75 municipalities in six counties. It stretches across New Jersey from Clark in the east to the Delaware River in the west.The District is one of only 24 around the country won last year by both a Republican member of Congress and Hillary Clinton. Lance has served in the district since 2009.
