A Path Forward on Pedestrian Safety
Throughout my campaign, I’ve made it a point to reach every corner of our town, and I’ve heard many stories from residents citing close calls with their children, how our streets feel like raceways, and of the need for more attention and enforcement from the Township. On a walk one day, I was almost hit by yet another speeding car.
Sharing the frustrations of the community, I decided to take action and launched a townwide survey on pedestrian safety calling for residents to identify problem intersections and their suggestions to address speeding in our town.
The responses were overwhelming and highlighted for me the scope of the problem facing our town.
Thanks to these responses, I will be taking their feedback to the Township Committee to demonstrate all the streets where residents don’t feel safe and to stress the importance of improving pedestrian safety.
If elected my plan to improve our safety is to:
Drive attention to the issue by collaborating with Cranford’s Pedestrian Safety committee to hold community forums and gather resident feedback.
Increase enforcement by providing the Police Department with more resources and developing a Strategic Plan.
Investment in more speeding mitigation tools like speed bumps, flashing crosswalks, and signals to ensure no part of our community is left behind.
I look forward to when I can walk my son to school without fearing for our safety in our neighborhood.
Together we can put Cranford on the right path.
